PMU
Pool betting reference and horse racing depth
PMU is a long-established French operator, licensed for online sports betting under number 0002-PS-2010-06-07 since the market opened in 2010, and holder of a second licence for online horse race betting. Both licences are operable from the pmu.fr domain.

What the licences cover
Online sports betting licence no. 0002-PS-2010-06-07 was issued to the economic interest grouping Pari Mutuel Urbain by ARJEL Decision no. 2010-024, then renewed several times — most recently by ANJ Decision no. 2025-125 of 17 June 2025. The licence authorises pool form and fixed odds. In parallel, ANJ Decision no. 2025-126 of 17 June 2025 renews the online horse race betting licence under number 0002-PH-2025-09-08-AGR-03, for five years from 8 September 2025.
Odds and margins
On main sporting markets, the odds sit in the middle of the French licensed market rather than standing out for aggressiveness. PMU’s logic remains that of pool betting: distribution between bettors takes precedence over the odds displayed at the moment a bet is struck, which changes how returns should be compared.
Market depth
Horse racing coverage is the most complete on the French market: daily meetings, international races, and pool formats inherited from more than a century of practice. The sporting offering is sound on football, tennis, rugby and cycling, but shallower than specialist operators on secondary markets.
Mobile experience
The interface has been modernised but retains an information density inherited from the racing world: programmes, runners, past form. A bettor arriving from sport may find the visual hierarchy heavy on first contact. Stability, by contrast, is good, including during the major dates of the racing calendar.
Payouts and withdrawals
Withdrawal turnaround matches the terms and conditions approved by the Autorité nationale des jeux. PMU’s physical network is a distinctive feature: the brand operates a wide retail footprint across France, which has no direct bearing on online withdrawal processing but explains the range of accepted payment methods.
Bettor protection
Deposit limits, stake limits, self-exclusion and session-duration moderation are available from the account area. PMU carries the Joueurs Info Service number and applies the voluntary exclusion register maintained by the Autorité nationale des jeux.
Detailed scoring
- Two distinct ANJ licences, sporting and racing, both publicly verifiable
- Horse racing coverage without equivalent on the French market
- Structured and reachable customer service
- Wide range of payment methods
- Sporting odds in the middle of the licensed market
- Dense interface for a bettor coming purely from sport
- Secondary-market depth lags behind specialists
PMU draws its strength from longevity and from racing coverage that remains the French benchmark. On sports betting alone the offering is serious and well regulated, without being the sharpest on the market. Our overall score is 8.5/10.
